Skiing & Snowboarding in and around Montreal
So you don't like the color of the snow in the city? Then,
head for the slopes!
When you live in Montreal, you really have the choice. You can decide to ski
or snowboard in the Laurentians where it is said that the snow is smoother.
Or you can select anyone of the Eastern Townships lone-standing hills. Or you
can stay in-town or use suburban hills which are usually good for learning how
to ski.
In town:
You can do some skiing on the Mount Royal or in parks like Angrignon and Maisonneuve.
There are also other cross-country trails alongside the St. Lawrence or Lachine
Canal, and generally where you go bicycling in the summer.
Laval:
Laval also offers 3 parks where to do some cross-country skiing: Bois Duvernay,
Parc de la Rivière des Mille-Iles, and Centre de la Nature.
Suburbs in the Monteregie:
If you want to stay close by, then Mont St-Bruno (south shore) and Rigaud (west
island), both located in the wide tourist region of Monteregie are the answer.
St-Bruno is a provincial park and Rigaud has the official title of Quebec's
Ski Kindergarten. Note that Rigaud is also known for its pilgrimage sanctuary
where outdoors masses are performed in summer and during the Christmas period.
It is also the home of superior quality maple syrup producers.
The Laurentians:
Traditionally referred to as "Up North", the Laurentians offer a wide range
of resorts, some of which have welcomed tourists for over 60 years. Here, you
will find places like Tremblant, Gray Rocks, Saint-Sauveur, Mont Blanc, Mont
Habitant, Vallee Bleue, etc.
The Eastern Townships:
This region is quite different from the Laurentians in that there are self-standing
hills in the middle of flat terrain. So the atmosphere is different. But you
will still find great skiing at places like: Owl's Head, Mont Sutton, Mont Orford,
Mont Glen, and Bromont.
The Lanaudiere Region:
You can also go to one of the off-the-beaten-path places sprouting up in Lanaudiere
where close-by hotel accommodations are provided for the family. Mont Garceau
and Val St-Come are 2 examples.
